Charles Darwin (1809-1882) was the British naturalist who became famous for his theories of evolution and natural selection. Darwin believed that all the life on earth evolved (developed gradually) over millions of years from a few common ancestors.
Darwin's famous work Origin of Species is still to-day considered to represent a valid view on the origins of life in its many forms.

Albert Einstein (1879 -1955) German physicist, who contributed more than any other scientist since Sir Isaac Newton to our understanding of physical reality. Became citizen of the United States in 1940, but retained the Swiss citizenship (from 1901). He received the Nobel Prize in 1921 for his 1905 work on the photoelectric effect.
Einstein is best known for his theory of relativity, which is presented in the book.

William James (1842-1910) and American psychologist. Educated as a Medical Doctor, who never practised, but studied and taught psychology and philosophy instead.
William James wrote many books on his studies and lectures. We are presenting 'The Varieties of Religous Experience', which is a classic psychological and philosophical study of the subject.

Friedrich Nietsche (1844-1900) - a German philosopher influenced by Kant, Schopenhauer, and the composer Richard Wagner. Nietzsche became a professor of philosophy at Basel at the age of 24 without the qualifications for the job. He resigned in 1879 due to constant illness and concentrated on writing for then years, after which he was mentally ill.
